About interviewing at Amazon

Recruiter screen and (for most SDE roles) an online assessment, one technical phone screen, then a single-day interview loop of four to six 45–60 minute sessions mixing coding, system design, and Leadership-Principle behavioral rounds. A Bar Raiser from outside the hiring team joins the loop and can veto the hire.

Description

Amazon's Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) team is seeking a PLM Application Engineer (PAE) to own the technical strategy, roadmap, and delivery of PLM and ERP systems and integrations. This role serves as the primary technical liaison between engineering, business stakeholders, and third-party system integration partners to drive the delivery of scalable PLM solutions across the organization. The PAE will define solution requirements and priorities, manage vendor execution through statement of work (SOW) creation and sprint oversight, and ensure alignment between business needs and technical delivery. This individual will own the backlog, lead requirement workshops, drive Key Decision Documents, and communicate progress at the executive level while partnering closely with Systems Development Engineers and vendors who build and maintain the technical solutions.

Key job responsibilities
The PAE owns the PLM application roadmap—including Teamcenter implementation, PLM-ERP integration, Change Management, Supplier Connect, Classification, and Product Configurator—prioritizing the backlog through data-driven trade-off decisions aligned with business objectives.

This role manages Statements of Work, legal approval processes, and third-party vendor onboarding. The PAE leads requirement workshops that translate business needs into technical requirements and user stories for development teams and vendor partners.

The PAE owns Key Decision Documents and go/no-go frameworks for program milestones, ensuring leadership can make informed investment decisions. Vendor delivery is managed through sprint planning, cadence meetings, escalation mechanisms, and status reporting.

This person coordinates across Siemens (incident and enhancement follow-ups), system integration partners, SAP Product Managers (ERP alignment), and internal engineering teams (architecture decisions). They author strategic narratives including working backwards documents and correction of error reports to secure leadership buy-in and purchase order approvals.

The PAE defines KPIs, OKRs, and success metrics for the PLM program, communicating progress at the executive level. They also design solution architecture for PLM processes (Document Management, Change Management, BOM structures), provide technical guidance to vendors, and plan user acceptance testing including test scripts and acceptance criteria.

A day in the life
A typical day begins with sprint standup alongside Systems Development Engineers and vendor partners, followed by requirement workshops where business needs are translated into user stories and acceptance criteria. You'll spend time prioritizing the product backlog, making trade-off decisions, and coordinating with Siemens on incident reports or enhancement requests. Afternoons may include drafting Key Decision Documents, aligning with SAP Product Managers on ERP integration, or preparing executive-level status updates. No two days are the same, but every day centers on driving clarity between what to build and why.

About the team
The OMHS Engineering Systems team builds and operates the automated CAD data ingestion pipeline that brings vendor product designs into Amazon's TeamCenter PLM environment at scale. The team manages end-to-end vendor onboarding—from file intake and format conversion through metadata population, quality validation, and bulk upload—while maintaining critical integrations between TeamCenter, SAP, and Design Studio. They ensure configuration control, revision integrity, and production-release readiness across thousands of parts per program, enabling Amazon's material handling hardware portfolio to scale efficiently. The team operates with a bias for automation and thrives in ambiguity.
