Recruiter screen and (for most SDE roles) an online assessment, one technical phone screen, then a single-day interview loop of four to six 45–60 minute sessions mixing coding, system design, and Leadership-Principle behavioral rounds. Alexa Connections is on a mission to become the world's most trusted communication agent. We're building intelligence that keeps customers connected effortlessly across calls, text, email, and beyond. As a Software Development Engineer II, you'll build the data infrastructure and engineering systems that power our communications intelligence—designing scalable pipelines, visualization tools, and robust services that enable our science team to innovate and deliver impact to millions of customers.
Key job responsibilities
Design and build scalable real-time and batch data pipelines that ingest, process, and serve data for ML models and analytics
Develop visualization dashboards and monitoring tools that surface insights into system performance, data quality, and model behavior
Create robust APIs, services, and infrastructure that enable the science team to experiment, iterate, and deploy models efficiently
Establish engineering best practices including code reviews, testing strategies, operational excellence, and reliability standards
Collaborate closely with applied scientists to understand requirements and translate them into scalable, maintainable systems
Own end-to-end data flow from collection through serving, ensuring low latency, high availability, and data integrity
A day in the life
You'll work at the intersection of data engineering and applied science. You might spend your morning designing a new pipeline to handle a growing data volume, collaborate with scientists on API requirements for their models, and spend the afternoon reviewing code and optimizing query performance. You'll have mentorship from experienced engineers, ownership of meaningful problems, and the chance to shape how millions of customers connect every day.
About the team
We're building the Alexa Connections engineering data foundation from the ground up. You'll join a collaborative team of engineers and scientists working on data infrastructure that powers communications intelligence. You'll have mentorship from experienced engineers, ownership of meaningful technical problems, and the chance to grow your skills in data systems, real-time processing, and ML infrastructure. It's a supportive environment where you can do impactful work early in your career, shaping how millions of customers connect every day.
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
