We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead our Optimization Control Plane team. This team owns the API platform that powers our Optimization products and partners closely with service teams across AWS. As the leader, you will own the vision, architecture, and delivery of a scalable, reliable API platform; grow and develop a team of engineers; and drive the 2026 roadmap, including 1) designing the next generation of the control plane to meet evolving optimization product needs; 2) expanding recommendations to cover fast-growing areas of the business; and 3) enhancing our recommendation products with generative AI. Key job responsibilities
* Obsess about customer needs and deliver the exceptional recommendation product experience
* Lead the development and implementation of a highly efficient and reliable API platform
* Own the end to end software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to implementations
* Build an AI-native development team that uses generative AI to raise the bar on engineering velocity and quality
* Collaborate and influence partner teams to align on business objectives
* Operate a public AWS service with Globally distributed customers and services
* Use data to make decisions and validate assumptions
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
