About interviewing at Amazon

Recruiter screen and (for most SDE roles) an online assessment, one technical phone screen, then a single-day interview loop of four to six 45–60 minute sessions mixing coding, system design, and Leadership-Principle behavioral rounds. A Bar Raiser from outside the hiring team joins the loop and can veto the hire.

Description

We are seeking an Sr Embedded Engineer to lead the design and development of audio signal-processing subsystems for robots. You will own core audio algorithm design and implementation, requiring a deep mathematical foundation in signal processing and a strategic understanding of embedded systems.

Key job responsibilities
- Architect the audio processing pipeline at the embedded system level.

- Serve as the subject-matter expert on audio and signal-processing algorithms, providing technical guidance across electrical, mechanical, ID, and software teams

- Integrate and validate DSP algorithms on embedded, real-time platforms

- Research and specify electroacoustic components (microphones, speakers)

- Adapt and tune algorithms for varying hardware, software, and system constraints

- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, systems, software, and product management

- Manage and direct external audio and acoustics consultants, defining SOWs and integrating third-party acoustic design inputs into a program

- Partner with vendors on test and production activities

About the team
Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces.

We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products.

Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful.

At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build.

If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’re interested in hearing from you.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 7+ years developing DSP algorithms for embedded or real-time systems
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python or MATLAB for signal-processing algorithm development
- Experience with microphone and speaker selection and characterization
- Deep signal-processing fundamentals: time/frequency duality, discrete-time signal processing, fixed- and floating-point implementation
- Hands-on prototype builds, hardware bring-up of audio subsystems, or design iteration cycles
- Practical knowledge of ML architecture design, data analysis, and training/evaluation methodologies for audio systems
- Experience with board bring-up, profiling, optimization, simulation, and manufacturing test fixture design, production test plans, yield analysis, and test-to-spec validation
- Experience debugging embedded systems and working with audio lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, motor test benches)
- Proven ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams at all organizational levels
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Audio/Acoustics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Familiarity with mechanical integration of electroacoustic components
- Experience with signal detection and estimation, spatial audio, direction-of-arrival estimation, acoustic event detection, keyword spotting, or ML for embedded systems
