About interviewing at Apple

One of tech's least standardized loops: you interview for a specific team, and every stage belongs to it. Recruiter/hiring-manager screen, one to three 45–60 minute Coderpad coding screens, a system design round shaped by Apple's reliability and privacy constraints, and a behavioral round — then a panel debrief. There is no central question bank; questions map to the team's real stack.

Description

Summary

Embark on a new route in your career! Offering a host of innovative features and rich data, Apple Maps powers experiences across Apple's product line. Join the MapKit Quality Engineering team to help deliver the revolutionary Apple Maps experience — reliably and at scale — to apps and websites reaching millions of users every day. This role oversees the scaling of automation testing across MapKit SDK on iOS, MacOS, WatchOS, Android and JS platforms, including a growing focus on Android automation, SDK/API validation, and CI reliability.

Description

If you enjoy building quality into developer-facing products and leading testing strategy across a fast-moving, cross-functional organization, this role is for you. The MapKit QE team is responsible for the quality of our public APIs and SDKs — including MapKit SDK for Apple native platforms, Android, and MapKit JS — as well as the automation frameworks and tools powering our developer ecosystem. You will lead a team of quality engineers who partner closely with development, product, and design throughout the full feature lifecycle: from early design review and test planning, through automation framework development, execution, triage, and release sign-off — all the way to features shipping at Apple's Developer Conference. The ideal candidate combines technical depth in test engineering, SDK/API automation, and people management, with a passion for shipping high-quality developer experiences. In addition to leading a QE team, you should be comfortable driving test strategy for complex, multi-platform SDKs, championing automation and continuous testing best practices, and coaching engineers to grow in their careers.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will: * Manage a team of Quality Engineers covering MapKit SDK on Native, Android and MapKit JS across multiple timezones * Define and drive overall test strategy — coverage, automation frameworks, CI/CD, and release quality gates — for public SDKs and APIs used by clients such as Find My, Weather, DuckDuckGo, and third-party developers * Guide the design and development of automation frameworks and tools to validate MapKit SDK, APIs, and sample/test applications across platforms (iOS, Android, and Web) * Partner with Engineering and Product Management to review feature and API designs early, identify risk areas, and ensure testability is built in from the start * Drive best practices in automation, continuous testing, and testability across the development lifecycle * Lead bug triage, root-cause analysis, and go/no-go release decisions across MapKit deliverables * Oversee test result aggregation, analysis, and reporting to surface trends, gaps, and quality risks * Represent QE in cross-functional discussions, including at key milestones * Recruit, mentor, and develop quality engineers, helping them grow their technical and leadership skills

Minimum Qualifications

6+ years of quality/test engineering experience, at least two of which in a lead or management role Proven track record of driving test strategy and delivering comprehensive test coverage for mission-critical SDKs, APIs, and applications Hands-on experience with SDK/API testing and automation frameworks (e.g., XCTest, Espresso, UI Automator, Appium, or JavaScript/web test frameworks) Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build systems (e.g., Gradle), Git, and RESTful API/backend integration testing Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to independently diagnose and triage complex issues Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide teams through ambiguous and complex technical challenges Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain complex problems clearly and succinctly Passion to collaborate and iterate on ideas in a cross-functional team

Preferred Qualifications

Experience testing or designing SDKs/APIs used by external teams or third-party developers, including Android and/or iOS SDKs Practical experience with mobile and web technologies (Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin/Java, HTML/CSS/JavaScript/TypeScript) Familiarity with SwiftUI, UIKit, React, and/or Node.js Experience managing host/lab environments for automated testing and end-to-end automation development Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and rapid release cadences Experience coaching direct reports to help them advance in their careers Familiarity with mapping frameworks is a plus
