About interviewing at Apple

One of tech's least standardized loops: you interview for a specific team, and every stage belongs to it. Recruiter/hiring-manager screen, one to three 45–60 minute Coderpad coding screens, a system design round shaped by Apple's reliability and privacy constraints, and a behavioral round — then a panel debrief. There is no central question bank; questions map to the team's real stack.

Description

Summary

People at Apple don't just build products, they craft the kind of experience that has revolutionized entire industries. The diverse collection of our people and their ideas inspire innovation in everything we do. Imagine what you could do here! Join Apple, and help us leave the world better than we found it. The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team builds and provides systems and infrastructure that power Apple's services (such as iCloud, Apple Music, Apple Intelligence, and Maps). We are the foundation on which Apple's software developers build the products that our customers love. Our services have to scale globally, stay highly available, and "just work." If you love designing, engineering, and running systems and infrastructure that will help millions of customers, then this is the place for you!

Description

As the Director of Site Reliability Engineering for ASE Virtual Infrastructure and Service Delivery (VISD) in China, you will lead and inspire a world-class team of software engineers to build and deliver solutions which underpin very large scale services at Apple. You will be a key member of the VISD leadership team, responsible for setting and executing the strategic vision for ASE VISD across all of Apple Services Engineering in China.

Key Responsibilities

Define and execute the multi-year strategic vision for the reliability, availability, and performance of Apple's mission-critical cloud platform services. Lead, scale, and inspire a local organization of Site Reliability Engineering managers and engineers focused on massive-scale Kubernetes, compute infrastructure, data platform, and traffic. Partner at the executive level with software engineering, architecture, and product teams to align on architectural direction, business priorities, system design for operability, and local deployment. Drive organizational excellence by establishing and scaling robust SRE frameworks, including SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, and incident management at an enterprise level. Oversee massive-scale infrastructure budgets, hardware capacity planning, and strategic vendor or cloud provider relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience. 15+ years of engineering experience in a leadership role managing a large team within infrastructure, cloud, or SRE domains. Proven track record of operating and scaling massive, globally distributed, multi-tenant Kubernetes and bare-metal environments in production. Expertise in organizational design, scaling engineering teams, and mentoring senior engineering leaders. Demonstrated ability to drive enterprise-wide, cross-functional initiatives and influence executive stakeholders. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts for diverse leadership audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Deep understanding of modern cloud-native architectures, AI/ML infrastructure scaling (e.g., GPU orchestration), Data Platform (e.g., Spark, Trino, Flink) and hybrid-cloud strategies. Strong financial acumen for managing large-scale infrastructure OPEX and CAPEX budgets. Track record of working with globally distributed engineering organizations across multiple time zones. Experience running infrastructure as an internal managed service with defined, enterprise-grade SLAs. Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a related field. Knowledge of the China technology ecosystem and regulatory landscape, with proven experience interfacing with local authorities, is a strong plus.
