About interviewing at Apple

One of tech's least standardized loops: you interview for a specific team, and every stage belongs to it. Recruiter/hiring-manager screen, one to three 45–60 minute Coderpad coding screens, a system design round shaped by Apple's reliability and privacy constraints, and a behavioral round — then a panel debrief. There is no central question bank; questions map to the team's real stack.

Description

Summary

The Health Sensing HW team is responsible for architecting and integrating the next generation of optical health sensor into Apple products. We are looking for someone who has broad knowledge of optical design, optical module process, mechanical design and EE design fundamentals to lead the optical module.

Description

You will design, develop, and launch next-generation optical health sensing technologies. You will analyze tradeoff between system constrains and sensor performances, enhance product design and manufacturability, drive failure analysis and drive design convergence through product validation cycles. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams - including Optical Engineers, Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineers, Process Engineers, Reliability Engineers, Test Engineers, and Software Engineers-to deliver state-of-the-art sensing. You will apply your influence and lead the cross-functional teams through key milestones in design and integration.

Key Responsibilities

Definition and trade-off studies on optical module requirements and performance Collaborate and guide the internal teams on optical module design, development and integration Leadership of manufacturing partners on design evaluation, product prototype builds, and qualification. Leadership of failure analysis and corrective action implementation at manufacturing sites, including assembly processes, testing, and calibration; parametric-data analysis of end-of-line yield and post-reliability failures. Documentation of design, test, and manufacturing requirements. Business travel up to 10% as required

Minimum Qualifications

BS and 10+ years of relevant industry experience required (Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or equivalent) Experience in design or manufacturing or integration of optical products Scripting experience for data analysis and automation. Ability to travel internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong background in optical sensor architecture, design and manufacturing. (Mechanical, EE, packaging, system thinking and requirements management) Hands-on experience with optical lab equipment (microscopes, detector, light sources etc). Experience supporting volume manufacturing, including test design, failure analysis, and statistical analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid collaboration and leadership skills. Strong teamwork abilities and self-motivation to tackle technical challenges. People managing experience is a plus.
