About interviewing at Apple

One of tech's least standardized loops: you interview for a specific team, and every stage belongs to it. Recruiter/hiring-manager screen, one to three 45–60 minute Coderpad coding screens, a system design round shaped by Apple's reliability and privacy constraints, and a behavioral round — then a panel debrief. There is no central question bank; questions map to the team's real stack.

Description

Summary

Here at Apple, the development and integration of revolutionary materials into our products are essential to the mechanical and electrical integrity, aesthetics, and overall feel our customers have come to expect. Our Materials Engineering Product Design team is dedicated to creating and optimizing these materials, enabling innovative designs across all product lines.

Description

As an Adhesives Engineering Intern, you will support projects involving liquid and structural adhesives, viscoelastic materials, PSAs, tapes, reactive films, and primer technologies. You will help accelerate development cycles, interact with material suppliers, and gain hands-on experience guiding projects from R&D toward mass production. We are looking for a high-energy, hands-on intern with a strong theoretical foundation who is passionate about exploring innovative technologies for next-generation product architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Perform applied materials research into new adhesive technologies for emerging product design needs. Develop test plans in collaboration with materials engineers and product design teams to evaluate adhesive performance, interface optimization, and design feasibility. Support advanced failure analysis (bulk and interfacial), material characterization, and reliability testing across multiple product lines. Document and present experimental results and data analysis to the adhesives team, material suppliers, and product design groups.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in Bachelors, Masters, or PhD studies in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field. Solid foundational knowledge of polymer chemistry, viscoelastic properties, and adhesion principles. Fluent in Mandarin and English, with excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to travel ~20% domestically in China. Interest in Apple and materials product design in China as a career after graduation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in adhesive development, application, characterization, and a deep understanding of structure-property relationships. Hands-on laboratory experience with polymer characterization techniques, including DSC, TGA, DMA, GPC, NMR, FTIR, GCMS/LCMS, and TMA, as well as exposure to curing kinetics (e.g., UV, thermal). Highly autonomous, detail-oriented, and solution-driven, capable of managing multiple complex projects and vendor relationships concurrently. Familiarity with AI-assisted design and analysis workflows. High energy and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based, and highly practical environment.
