Recruiter screen, a technical screen (60-minute asynchronous challenge or paired live coding), a short culture-fit questionnaire, then a virtual onsite of about four rounds: fast-paced coding with multiple problems per round, system design scoped to level, a lighter behavioral, and an AI-enabled coding round assessing how you work with a coding assistant.

About
Meta is seeking experienced engineers to join our Central Integrity team which exists to keep billions of people safe on Meta's platforms. We design and deploy systems that detect and disrupt harm at an unprecedented global scale, making this one of the largest deployments of AI for positive real-world impact anywhere in the industry. Our work safeguards critical areas including child and youth safety, fraud and scams, identity and authenticity and more while actively building defenses against novel frontier threats, such as autonomous AI agents and automated risk vectors. This represents some of the most technically demanding and high-stakes engineering and product at Meta, driven by a deeply mission-focused team. You'll combine solid engineering fundamentals with cutting-edge AI to build effective, adaptable solutions that stay ahead of evolving integrity and safety risks. If you are driven by hard technical challenges and want your work to deliver immediate, real-world impact, this is the team for you. As a Principal Engineer on the Access & Compromise team, you will own the technical direction for how Meta prevents, detects, and remediates account and entity compromise across the Family of Apps, spanning authentication and recovery integrity, compromise detection, enforcement, and the measurement systems that prove real harm reduction.
Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year technical strategy for account and entity compromise across the Family of Apps - negotiating the approach with executive leadership, developing the execution plan with partner orgs, and sequencing the bets that reduce real-world harm fastest
- Protect Meta's user accounts, assets and the people behind them from adversaries who gain unauthorised access, and from the downstream harm that follows - scams, financial loss, impersonation, and abuse of trusted accounts
- Own the full integrity lifecycle for account access: authentication and recovery integrity, detection of compromise signals, enforcement and remediation, and the measurement systems that tell us whether we are actually reducing harm
- Establish technical direction in our most highly pressured and ambiguous areas, where adversaries are motivated, organised, and constantly adapting - sustaining strategy, measurement discipline, and speed of iteration against an active opponent
- Bring integrity requirements into new products and account models, including newly launched apps such as Muse - so they are secure and integrity-ready from day one rather than retrofitted after harm appears
- Define how we measure harm: compromise rates, harm prevented, recovery success, and false-positive cost to good users, setting the metrics the org is held to
- Partner and effectively communicate with teams across Meta to navigate complex technical trade-offs between user protection, product friction, and business outcomes
- Identify and execute on opportunities to help the company move faster through centralization of tooling and systems across legacy identity systems and new account models
- Adapt to changing priorities by reassessing plans, communicating trade-offs, and iterating on solutions as requirements evolve
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience with building large-scale applications, or similar experience
- 12+ years of programming experience
- 8+ years of experience with web or mobile technologies
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions
- Experience in driving large cross-functional/industry-wide engineering efforts
- Experience in mentoring/influencing engineers across organizations
- Experience leading projects with industry-wide impact
- Proven track record of planning multi-year roadmap in which shorter-term projects ladder to the long-term vision Track record of identifying and delivering step-change improvements to product systems through architectural rethinking or ground-up rebuilds
- Experience working on adversarial problems where bad actors actively adapt to countermeasures
- Experience partnering with legal, policy, or compliance teams to design technical solutions that address privacy, security, or integrity requirements at scale
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI-assisted development practices and agent-based workflows to drive measurable engineering productivity improvements
- Experience building detection, classification, or enforcement systems for abuse, fraud, or safety harms at consumer scale
- Experience defining and operationalizing reliability, performance, or quality frameworks adopted at an organizational or company-wide scale
- Experience in trust and safety, risk, fraud, security, or regulated-domain engineering
