As a Senior Software Engineer on the Visual Studio Platform team, you will help modernize Visual Studio as it evolves to meet the changing needs of today's developers. The Visual Studio Platform powers experiences across the Visual Studio ecosystem and serves as a critical entry point for GitHub Copilot. Our team is designing the next generation of developer experiences that combine world-class engineering tools with AI-powered capabilities, enabling scenarios not possible in any other developer tool.
You'll work on products that you personally use every day, giving you a rare and direct connection between the code you write, and the experience customers receive. Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and deliver high-quality platform capabilities that power Visual Studio and enable rich developer experiences used by millions of professional developers around the world.
- Partner closely with engineers, program managers, designers, and teams across Microsoft, GitHub, and the broader developer ecosystem to deliver integrated experiences that help professional developers accomplish more.
- Drive the evolution of Visual Studio as a key entry point for GitHub Copilot and AI-powered development experiences, helping define how developers interact with the next generation of software engineering tools.
- Use data, telemetry, experimentation, and customer feedback to evaluate feature adoption, measure impact, and continuously improve the developer experience.
- Engage directly with customers and the developer community to understand pain points, identify opportunities, and rapidly address issues that improve customer satisfaction and product quality.
- Contribute to engineering excellence through software design, code reviews, automation, testing, continuous integration, debugging, and operational quality practices that ensure a reliable and performant platform.
- Mentor and collaborate with other engineers while helping foster a culture of technical excellence, customer obsession, learning, and innovation.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C# OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using and understanding how to develop with large language models (i.e., prompt crafting, validation strategies, prompt caching, hyperparameters, etc.)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience building Windows client software.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
