About the Role
Uber One is Uber's flagship membership program, serving more than 50 million members globally across Mobility, Delivery, Grocery, and other Uber experiences. Membership combines savings, benefits, priority experiences, and exclusive offerings while driving engagement, cross-platform adoption, and long-term retention.
As a Backend Engineer, you will build high-scale services and product platforms that directly power user-facing Membership experiences, including benefits, savings, engagement, presentation, and experimentation.
What You Will Do
- Build backend systems used by millions of Uber One members.
- Develop high-QPS, low-latency services for benefits, offers, savings, and engagement.
- Build reusable APIs and platforms that enable rapid development of member-facing experiences.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Web, iOS, and Android engineers.
- Build experimentation capabilities to improve conversion, engagement, and retention.
- Own systems through design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and support.
- Contribute to design reviews, code quality, observability, and engineering practices.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional backend or distributed-systems engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Go, Java, Python, C++, or a comparable backend language.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, APIs, distributed systems, and system design.
- Experience building and operating high-throughput production systems.
- Experience translating user-facing product requirements into backend services and APIs.
- Experience with testing, monitoring, reliability, and production operations.
- Strong collaboration skills in a cross-functional product environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building membership, subscription, benefits, growth, or consumer engagement products.
- Experience with high-QPS, low-latency distributed systems and strong reliability requirements.
- Experience building backend platforms that power user-facing presentation and engagement surfaces.
- Experience with experimentation, A/B testing, feature configuration, or data-driven product development.
- Product mindset with an interest in connecting technical decisions to consumer experience and business impact.
- Experience collaborating across teams and systems to deliver end-to-end consumer products.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $171,000 per year - USD $190,000 per year.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
