About the Role
Uber One is Uber's flagship membership program, serving more than 50 million members globally across Mobility, Delivery, Grocery, and other Uber experiences. Membership combines savings, benefits, priority experiences, and exclusive offerings while driving engagement, cross-platform adoption, and long-term retention.
As a Backend Engineer, you will build scalable services and product platforms behind user-facing Membership experiences, including benefits, savings, engagement, and experimentation.
What You Will Do
- Build backend systems used by millions of Uber One members.
- Develop scalable services and APIs for benefits, savings, and engagement.
- Create reusable capabilities that enable rapid experimentation on member experiences.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, Web, Android, and iOS.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs for ambiguous product and engineering problems.
- Own testing, monitoring, reliability, and operational quality.
- Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and engineering practices.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional backend or distributed-systems engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Go, Java, Python, C++, or a comparable language.
- Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, APIs, distributed systems, and system design.
- Experience developing and operating scalable production services.
- Experience translating product requirements into backend designs and APIs.
- Experience with testing, monitoring, debugging, and production operations.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in a product environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building membership, subscription, benefits, growth, or consumer engagement products.
- Experience with high-QPS, low-latency distributed systems.
- Experience building backend services that power user-facing presentation and engagement surfaces.
- Familiarity with experimentation, A/B testing, feature configuration, or data-driven product development.
- Product mindset with an interest in understanding consumer needs and delivering measurable impact.
- Experience collaborating across teams and systems to deliver end-to-end consumer products.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $171,000 per year - USD $190,000 per year.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
